I've had a Flickr Pro account since way before Yahoo acquired and crapped all over it. I used to use it as my primary photo site and I have a lot of photos and metadata there.I've kept it alive for the last several years, just because it was easy and relatively cheap.I just got notice that it's supposed to auto-renew in August for $71.99 for the next year!I don't think so.This may be the year I finally pull the plug on it.#flickr

@joeo10 Looks like I did pay that last year..I think I was on vacation and it kind of caught me by surprise and I let it go through.Not this time.

@paradroyd I couldnt find a good alternative for flickr. I now just use general cloud storage to backup and share photos. I manage the albums and metadata with apps like XNviewMP and Digikam

@glc I've had alternatives for quite a while. The pictures already exist in other places, just with a different set of metadata, and organized in different ways in most cases.I just don't use them on Flickr enough these days to spend that much money on it.Flickr doesn't seem to be improving, or even staying as useful as it used to be. If anything, it's falling further behind and charging more at the same time.I just don't need it.

@duhproject Yeah..I don't mind spending even more on services I actively need and use, but this doesn't fall into that category. It used to a long time ago, but it doesn't now, and the price keeps going up.

@paradroyd Not sure if they still do this, but I tried cancelling a few times before, and each time they automatically offered something like 50% off if I stayed on. I relented, but suspect I’ll eventually be moving back to my own self-hosted solution in the future.

@paradroyd Yeah, that’s just kind of crazy. I dropped them shortly after the Yahoo acquisition, but the site I moved to (500px) ended up even worse (sold to China, took all the rights). Best of luck!

@paradroyd @duhproject oh god Flickr I got rid of eons ago when they had that whole "we may use your photos for advertisements" debacle .. yea $71 is a bit steep.
