Someone was disliking the introduction of threads (no not THAT #threads) in a chat that introduced threads today.I've seen folks in several communities bristle at threads in chat. And then I've seen threading catch on, and then I've seen people end up nudging people to please use threads because it helps in a busy space. So ... I think it's not threading, it's just change that's hard.

Douglas Adams:1) everything that’s already in the world when you’re born is just normal;2) anything that gets invented between then and before you turn thirty is incredibly exciting and creative and with any luck you can make a career out of it;3) anything that gets invented after you’re thirty is against the natural order of things and the beginning of the end of civilisation as we know it until it’s been around for about ten years when it gradually turns out to be alright really.

@ljwrites gosh I had some ups and downs reading that. I think he was a good writer and thinker.Does that pidgin/creole analogy hold for you? I had read the definitional difference before, but never had it framed with _why_ it might happen (and fuck our histories for much of that).

@ljwrites > Pervasive wireless communication, he believes will "bring us back to behaviour patterns that were natural to us and destroy behaviour patterns that were brought about by the limitations of technology."Brutally ironic, I'm having an "against the natural order of things" moment about this bit.
