Question for the wizards out there, have you ever installed a new drive and it gets detected like you'd expect but for some reason your main drive started running at maybe a quarter of the speed. You reseat the cables and then the problem completely goes away. If so how and why?

@BrodieOnLinux I am definitely no wizzard and I don't know the correct terms but on a mainboard there are things like switches to connect multiple peripherals to one CPU lane. My first guess would be that both of your storage devices shared the same "switch" and now each have their own. If thats true it could be mentioned in the manual of your mainboard.

@DrRac27 I just reseated the cable, I didn't change the port, someone else mentioned on Twitter that maybe there was a PCIE bottleneck

@BrodieOnLinux PCIe sharing lanes, kind of like a network switch.

@BrodieOnLinux Reseating cables sounds like it's a SATA drive, in which case if there are any signaling issues, it could be falling from sata 3 to sata 2. Just a theory though, as I don't actually know if sata has a failover protocol, usually I just have failed read/writes and the OS retries. (In my case, I just replaced the cable entirely, and I was good)

@BrodieOnLinuxSounds like a very specific issue.
