I probably shouldn't be telling anyone this but I don't encrypt my desktop computer. My laptop has full disc encryption but not the desktop. I don't let anyone into my house that I don't trust so it's not my threat model. Also that machine is on at least 16 hours a day so it's only got a small window when the encryption would do any good.

@art I finally realized the reason I should be encrypting drives; so I have a way to securely erase them later. SSDs are nearly impossible to scrub data from. But if it's all encrypted and you destroy the key...

@art I don’t either. I know I should, but I’m just so lazy and so tired. I grew up on an internet where everyone had a publicly routed IP and ran Telnet and sendmail (for better or worse). I hate infosec, I hate always thinking about “threat models”, I just want to play computer. Nevertheless, I’ll probably start encrypting anyway when I build my next system.
