anybody use magigoo for a bed adhesive? i just printed petg on my textured bed and can't get the shit off. for some reason the first layer was crazy thin and got all in the grooves. i guess this stuff doesn't lift off well with isopropyl? on that note, saw this kit but seems pricey despite the sale. worth it?https://www.matterhackers.com/store/l/magigoo-coater-starter-kit-silicone-applicator/sk/M7DQZ00D

@greyknight33 textured bed...you mean a bedliner in your pickup? maybe try 50/50 acetone and Automatic transmission fluid

@CattleBaron lol nope, linex in the pickup bed and that stuff is kick ass.nah my 3d printer. i'll swing by hobby lobby or home desperate and grab some acetone. wasn't sure if my approach with 91% isopropyl was wrong and hence why its so hard to get the plastic off that bed. then of course if i should be using a seperating layer like a glue stick or something for petg.

@CattleBaron can't imagine the acetone messing up the bed. will give it a shot nonetheless. thanks! probably works better than the isopropyl

@greyknight33 50% Automatic Transmission Fluid and 50% Acetone, was my suggestion...pure Acetone is not my monkeys and not my circus😂 Please post the results if you try either one.

@greyknight33 if your wife has fingernail polish remover, you could try that if you are doing just acetone.

@CattleBaron oh sorry, i thought that was a gag. half tranny fluid? why so? i guess it has other properties that can lift the plastic (PETG in this particular case)?

@greyknight33 @CattleBaron Not all polish removers have acetone, some are the 'safe' stuff that doesn't work as well.

@greyknight33 the 50/50 combo is used as a Wd40 or penetrating oil replacement solution. rusted or seized up stuff, soaked in the solution, tends to come undone. I figured it might help to break your cleanup bond problem too.

@greyknight33 if you have rubber gloves I'd use it. who knows what it actually does to a person.. we know the value of "testing" the government does to determine safety.

@CattleBaron @KillerMule damage report: it worked! i had some makeup pads and splashed some acetone on them (it soaked thru while scrubbing) and with a shit ton of elbow grease, got all the plastic off. feels like super light bleach on my hands, kinda dry but barely caused any dead skin, just a little spot on my thumb but i had a bandaid there after slicing my thumb open earlier so that proly reduced any potential damage.i can see where i attacked the bed with acetone and where i spilled some

@CattleBaron @KillerMule but only in certain light. when looking at it flat, can't even tell, in reflection, its quite obvious. bed seems good tho, i think its just staining the coating on the bed. its all metal so probably fine.will be adding a layer of something next time i print PETG. i think cuz the plastic is getting inside the textured bumps is what's causing the problem. if i add some glue, should be fine plus that should come off easy with isopropylTYFYC!

@greyknight33 @CattleBaron Use gloves. Acetone will remove ALL oils from your skin. It’s ‘safe’. Unpleasant.

@greyknight33 @CattleBaron Yeah, that's tricky because you need some grip for the raft to start, but it needs to come off. Also you can't have your bed being made unlevel by some junk staying on there. I know it's not the same, but we ended up with one of the lemon Creality 10S machines years ago, and the glass they used it turned out was sloped, we got mirror glass squares to use instead, but we used hairspray or blue tape sometimes to start the print. PITA!!!

@CattleBaron @KillerMule worth throwing the glue stick on there then? and this happens, the print will bond to the bed? its made of metal, i kinda feel like that'll never happen... unless i discover zero point energy :)i find what happens in my case is the first layer goes on thin and squished into the grooves of the texture. i can't just putty knife it off like a glass bed so it requires something to lift it off. another print usually works too but not ideal

@KillerMule @CattleBaron yeah was thinking of blue tape too. used it once but could see noticeable lines where the tape overlapped. i guess that's the approach when printing on a raft? i usually just use a brim, i hate peeling off the raft plus uses a ton of material

@CattleBaron @greyknight33 Funny story, my Dad and Step-Mom are anti-gun libtards and came to visit us in TN, and saw our 3D printer set up, upstairs. They made some comment about making guns, which isn't practical on that CR10s printer. So my kids put blue tape on the computer unit and wrote "Gun Printer" in huge letters on it so Grandpa and Gam Gams could see it. Yay....good times. Funny also cuz the actual gun safe is in the same room. They missed that I guess. LOL
