       I spent a good decade of my career in and around southern California newsrooms getting branded as "a maverick" because I kept insisting there were organized hives of white supremacists using San Diego as their home base lol. At least some of my colleagues have finally apologized to me

       This was the La Mesa police patch until, I think, 1992. Again, one town over from Del Cerro, which is also where Brenda Spencer carried out the very first school mass shooting in the nation ("I don't like Mondays"). The hill is Mt. Helix and the cross was originally put up there to tell Jewish people to keep out. There's a similar one that's much more famous in La Jolla that was originally put up for the same reason.
