       My wife, our dog, and I will be relocating to Germany on September 22nd.        @Amirography the majority of apartments are let unfurnished, not including appliances etc. Depending on how long you plan to stay and your knowledge of German it may be advisable to hire an agent. German law around renting protects the interests of the person renting, but owners may try things with a foreigner. Personally I'd advise against signing a contract you don't understand. Of cpurse, this doesn't apply if it's just a few months.

       @stefan_hessbrueggen ah thank you very much for the tips. We are also looking for a short term solution. But as you said, many of them are not furnished and the furnished ones are also hesitant about renting to families with pets.

       @AmirographyIf an appartment is furnished, rents go over the top. And your rights as a tenant are restricted. But that is not a problem. You'll find furnuture cheap at many places and supermarkets have billboards, where you can see private offers and also can hang a demand card. So better rent without furniture.@stefan_hessbrueggen

       @wauz @stefan_hessbrueggen honestly we are mostly pressed by the consulate to have a place before we apply for Visa. So we would not mind a higher pricing at first, especially with regards to kitchen furniture.

       @AmirographyContacting churches may be helpful as well. Especially evangelical "free" churches have  enormous reach. Detmold, Paderborn and all the smaller places. @stefan_hessbrueggen
