We've got an icon for materials meant to be recycled, why not a similar logo for hardware that's designed to be repaired?https://hackaday.com/2023/07/07/show-em-what-youre-made-of-with-this-repair-logo/

@hackaday this is really cool! Though I am reminded how the motto started as "Reduce Reuse Recycle", but we seem to only have focused on the Recycle bit

@hackaday I learned when I posted about this that the original didn't have 60° rotational symmetry.https://social.makerforums.info/@mcdanlj/110678716327637629

@hackaday If the triangle was the other way up it would stand out visually from recycling logos in their many forms.

@hackaday: I like the idea. Some thinking into how to best design hardware for repairability might be a good idea, too.

@webmink: Perhaps it could be a blue rhomb of four wrenches. On one hand, having a distinct shape makes it easier for visually impaired people to recognise; on the other, some meaning is already attached to the shape of traffic signs; triangular ones are warning and yield, and the sole rhomb-shaped one is right-of-way. Repairable devices should have right of way over recyclable ones.@hackaday

@hackaday Love this idea!A gentle reminder that those icons (like ♳) are *not* “recycling symbols,” they are plastic (or other material) codes. They might help with recycling, but remember that most stuff doesn't actually get recycled, regardless of how good you are with your blue bin. Maybe a bit of greenwashing on the part of the plastics industry.Anyway, don't let this take away from @hackaday's idea. It's good, and any push to encouraging manufacturers to make their devices more accessible to repair is worthy.
