Amazon has a pretty good deal on the video doorbell that I wanted to upgrade to. I got the Ring Pro 2. I currently have a Ring 2 battery and I would switch out the battery like every month or so. For some reason my house doesn't have an existing doorbell or wiring. So I bought a wiring kit and I'm going to attempt to fish it behind the siding and drill a hole to the closest outlet and plug it into that outlet. I've watched a video and it should be hard.

I know people hate ring because Amazon owns them and apparently they would turn over videos to police. I have nothing to hide and live in a quiet neighborhood but want better video, and package identification. Also video that shows the whole person.

@PhilGastwirth I think it's also because the workers were peeping on people in their homes and videos of people were left unsecured. I think it's more than who owns them.

@RochelleWinsLifeAh. Yeah I'm very cautious with knowing that these "security" web cameras. The doorbell cams are my least concern since they aren't inside the house.

@PhilGastwirth Amazon doesn’t turn videos over to police without owner permission, that whole thing is overblown. Essentially what the police have is access to who owns a Ring camera and then the police can send out a request to the camera owners, you can deny the request if you want. I’ve got doorbell pro and it’s been kicking for 5 years no issues, also have floodlight cam and Ring alarm and that’s been great as well.

@monorailtimes yeah I've had mine for 4 years?? And no issues. I appreciate the info. I figured it was overblown

@PhilGastwirth @monorailtimes https://www.wired.com/story/why-we-do-not-recommend-ring/I'm reading this now, I have to be honest, I'm far too sheltered to have a good basis for judging.I'm not currently in a targeted group, but those that are seem to be opposed to the surveillance state type behavior... And I trust their opinions on it.

@m750 @PhilGastwirth I'm not really seeing here anything that's different than any other security camera. If someone is on my property, I would like to know about it, end of story. Last week my Ring camera caught the Amazon driver being mauled by my neighbors’ dogs that people have been worried about in this neighborhood and you'll be sure as hell I sent that video to police. Amazon also has that video now and I hope they sue the shit out of my neighbors.

@monorailtimes @PhilGastwirth I know my experience with police aren't the same as everyone else's experience.

@m750 @PhilGastwirth right, but if someone is committing a crime, i would like them to not do that

@monorailtimes I live directly across the street from a retired state policeman. My neighbor is quiet. I'm not committing crimes and my neighbors hopefully aren't either. I also want to deter people from committing crimes on my property to my property
