@cryborg @cybernewtype Can I suggest garuda?It comes in a fuckload of flavors in both xorg and wayland and a really active community, with top tier documentation and bigass AUR Chaotic repos by default. If ur machine has at least ‘30 GB storage space, 4 GB RAM, Video card with OpenGL 3.3 or better, 64-bit system’ it’ll run good.It’s also arch based and generally really nice in my limited experience.I’m not thrilled to recommend systemd but. like. idk…. artix is cool too.

@cryborg @cybernewtype Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………..OK prefacing this by saying that my opinions here do not matter at all, and aren’t impressively & deeply well informed and I’m hesitant to say inflammatory bullshit that does not matter at all that could get me yelled at, though I’m convinced of them for now. However, if it doesn’t matter at all why not talk shit? Many of these points of view aren’t based on my own use of the distribution, but critiques others have put forward that I agree with. I tried it for like idk a day and got sick of it.Also if someone was using it and liked it I would be fine with that because I’m not a deluded fanatic. Well actually I am a deluded fanatic but maybe you get my point.At the end of the day I feel I’ve got reason to distrust it. The maintainers, if I may exaggerate for emphasis, while a hell of a lot smarter and more committed than me, appears to be a continuous shitflinging catastrophe, their repos are like if you took all the cutting edge stuff from arch and tried to sharpen that knife on concrete for a week to make it ‘safer’, the docs and wiki and community (from what I’ve seen) are relatively weaksauce. I wind up on The Arch Wiki all the time, and have never once found a good anything on any of manjaro’s shits. Idk why the fuck a rolling distro would be aimed at beginners, their approach to the AUR is baaaad like baaaaaaaad, the distro is run weirdly as a business that doesn’t contribute upstream which is like idk you do you but I’m not personally a big fan of commerce or profit. Also systemd. Also I don’t like Plasma or Gnome. Aslo I like their logo so I’m holding them to an unrealistic standard. Also it’s kind of perversely fun to act like a pedantic linux snob on low hanging fruit. Alos idk about hypocrisy cos u could almost say some of this about void too ig.

@cryborg @cybernewtype i believe plasmas just a desktop environment/ suite and KDE is the org that makes it. KDE used to stand for K Desktop environment n KDE makes some cool programs, but their whole ecosystem that uses the qt tooklit is super interconnected and they have interdepndencies that go a little manky unless ur all in.
