       it's super odd to me that many folks opposed to instances preemptively blocking zuck, frame the decision as "admins holding users hostage". this seems to come with the assumption that "admins" are purely this objective, dispassionate entity outside each instance's community, rather than active participants in it, well aware of the standards and preferences of its members

       i'm not denying the tension it causes, especially for users who feel pressure to re-home right after settling in somewhere. but, i can't help feeling like people aren't articulating what's actually on their mind when they object on these grounds, or their motivations for being on social media are fundamentally different from minei mused about some of this last year, but there's a dynamic i didn't predict and still struggle to empathize withhttps://mastodon.social/@0x56/109384029765867111
