I love this 16th century term for being depressed or in low spirits: "mubble fubbles."The OED says the use was chiefly "in one's mubble fubbles," as in "Mignon is in her mubble fubbles."Obviously, we should bring back this word. It's so much fun that just saying it could help rescue people from their mubble fubbles! What other words should we bring back?

@grammargirl Mubble fubbles! Nice. I'd not heard of that. I'd like to see us bring back "horsefeathers".https://www.dictionary.com/browse/horsefeathers

@grammargirl Victorian slang for depressed is, "Got the morbs." The phrase describes a person afflicted with temporary melancholy or sadness.

@grammargirl The OED says the use was chiefly "in one's mubble fubbles," as in "Mignon is in her mubble fubbles."Italics mine. Do I sense a little self-promotion there, Mignon Fogarty?Since I used it the day before yesterday, ereyesterday?

@grammargirl 😋 Couldn't help myself. 😈I adore throwing in archaic and obsolete words, as well as Britishisms, into my writing. It goes well with the MC. Police is only a verb in my stories. Instead you get constables and the constabulary. People call them coppers for the obvious reason: the copper badges they wear. Anyway, fun thread.
