There is one simple thing I cannot stand in so many TV shows and movies :blobcatgiggle: When the actor is "calling" but you see the homescreen or something else that indicates they are not calling :flan_laugh: Why not just make an actual phone call or otherwise put a screenshot on from a phonecall (to not interfear with other electronics perhaps)C'mon hollywoooood it's not thaaaat hard right 😇

@stux or when they use fake phones which look oddly transparent :blobthinking:

@stux Or how sometimes people on the other side accept the call faster than I would be able to do, even if I would have unlocked phone in my hand already.

@stux One that bugs is when they are seen replying to text messages from "unknown number." If the number isn't known, how the hell are they sending the reply?

@stux What bugs me is when they ‘drink’ from an obviously empty cup! Just put coloured water in…anything…

@stux what I cannot stand is that they never ever say bye when they end the phone call. is that a custom of english speaking countries? here it looks impolite. 🤷🏻♂️

@stux Yep, same deal in live theatre. Test it in dress rehearsal to make sure you've actually got signal in there and it all sounds okay. Set your cue early enough that the call comes through in time. Simple.

@stux Or when the text is written faster than their typing fingers, or when they write "Unbelievable!" and they type like 4 keys.

@stux My favorite is in one episode of Castle, the character Esposito not only has the phone on the home screen, but he’s holding the phone upside down 😝

@stux The only one that did this right was moon night. He was never calling and it was just a hallucination.

@stux Any smart phone is going to turn the screen off when you hold it to your ear anyway, so you could just use a blank dummy prop phone and it would be more convincing than having it show the homescreen or even a call screen.

@mansr @stux maybe that number has called them before and they didn't know who it was so they added them to their contacts as "unknown number" :thonking:

@stux Never seen this. But I hate when f.e. they dial like a really short number, or just whisk at their screen for half a second and then put it in their ear already. All indicating fakeness :p

@stux the issue with a screenshot though is you occasionally see an actor talking on a phone with the call notification still on & that is as equally annoying.

@stux I love seeing newer things where every character has an iphone 4/4S. You just know some production company just bought up a bunch of the old Uber devices. lol

@stux the scrolling of code when they are "hacking" drives me crazy. And how when the code flies by they are able to "see" the problem and fix in 2 minutes. Sure.

@stuxIf it was easy everyone would do it. Practical effects are actually extremely difficult. If it isn't done precisely right. If every T is not crossed and every i is not dotted you can break immersion and then the whole things is lost. For real.

@stux we live in a world of full markerless body replacement CGI if an art direction decision gets made after filming but they can't fake a phone screen?
