@graf T580 w/ the i5, 40gb, still haven't touched the stock 256g SSD. I wanted a beater to take on the road for a trip and ended up liking it a lot more than I expected. Was able to handle all my work tasks, and has been the most stable linux experience ever w/ Pop. It's a lot of comp for the money, I got it from a refurb center for $350, and now it's gone down to $250

@graf @l0ngyap @Argyrus Oh shit, didn't know you could get a thinkpad with ram like that! How is the battery life on it?

@Goobly @graf @l0ngyap Depending on the models, you can cram them w/ a lot. Something I've really liked is the old school battery swap, there's an internal one and a removable one, if you get the taller, multi-cell ones it raises the back of the laptop up about 1/2 an inch - makes a big difference in airflow and really reduced the amount of throttling on mine.

@graf @l0ngyap @Argyrus Man, after using an M1 macbook, it's really hard to get back to laptops with such a low battery life :/ But man I do enjoy thinkpads, I still have an T410 in my shelf that I miss using sometimes.

@Goobly @l0ngyap @Argyrus yeah my M2 dances around anything, even without battery saving on. they hit it out of the park with apple silicon

@Goobly @graf @l0ngyap Yeah, I think I'll grab one if it can run all my displays and just be my one prime computer for a good 8 years. Not sure if it's there yet. Might let them tumble down the depreciation curve a bit longer before making the jump. Also like having a number pad and joystick on the thinks though.

@Argyrus @graf @l0ngyap I never got used to the nipple controller - for some reason, which is sad because so many people praise it :/ M1 air at least has limitations in regards of how many monitors you can have, but I'm not sure how the situation is with M2s

@Goobly @graf @l0ngyap I'm not sure if it'll fit my use case just yet. I've gotten almost 10 years out of my garbage can mac....if I could replace it with a macbook I'd be over the moon. I'm not too enamored with battery life, it's always a honeymoon phase before it drops to 84% capacity and I'm married to a charger whenever I have an outlet anyway. I just wanna run everything off a single do-all computer. Not sure if the M2 chips are there yet

@Argyrus Fair enough, if you are always connected to an outlet, then it does not matter that much - I'm also in the boat of wanting a single do-all machine to live with, it's gotten a bit tiring to have all these machines to do different kind of tasks - just give me a laptop with enough space & ram, with a good battery life, and support for eGPUs - after that it would be just so much easier. And also a unicorn would be great now that I am wishing for impossible things.
