       I still think the Get the Message Activism thing is really stupid because it highlights how society is unwilling to change it’s habits.RCS doesn’t even really fix any problems, the Messages app on iOS is just really confusing wrapping 2 chat systems in one. And trying to flow between iMessage when I’m at my Apple devices and SMS when I’m not just leads to my family accidentally sending the wrong message later even though I have made sure to disable my phone number in iMessage presumably because of how chats are merged together.You can’t even force a message in Messages to send as SMS if the other user is using iMessage.The problem is not of interoperability, it’s a matter of what are either really stupid, or really dark patterns

       RCS does not solve Google’s half a dozen failed messaging implementations, and still doesn’t fix their own failures (Like the new pixel tablet not even having a native messages app).

       @soulfire I don't think it's intended to? RCS is not a Google standard, it's a 3GPP/Open Mobile Alliance standard.

       @Neybulot @soulfire yeah, RCS ain't Google. They're just the ones who jumped on it first in the USA, and a lot of people still only text. Would be nice if they didn't feel like the only option for RCS servers and such, but they're also the most robust right now :/

       @soulfire I think if Google really wanted, they'd get their shit together and made an RCS client hardcoded for Jibe for iPhone themselves, and, you know, maybe also made sync and Google Account. Yes, what I'm saying, is that they need to bring that version of Hangouts that had SMS integration back.
