So is #Suse the distro of choice now?

@selea I found the openSUSE package manager pretty perplexing last time I used it but that was a while ago. Some people seem really fond of the rolling release openSUSE though.

@selea honestly, maybe. Been gaming on #Tumbleweed for a couple of months now and it's been solid. I even tried to go back to #Fedora but bounced right back to TW.Haven't tried #Leap as a server yet.

@selea Does it mean I'm trendy now? Woohoo! \o/I knew using one distro for more than a decade would finally pay off xD

@selea no, it's not. #opensuse is a company just like #redhat so they'll maneuver to enclose the #commons as soon as it suits their aims. which is profit. so no. the distro of choice is one that has a strong community, a commitment to users and is run by people through a democratic process. like #debian

@zeh @selea I went back to straight #debian for my solo company’s dev machine, a 16-core beast that gets regular exercise. It just works. Even the Nvidia card with its proprietary driver worked just fine right away. And the #xfce desktop is simple, clean, and fast.As someone who was trying to make #Linux work for me on the desktop 20 years ago, I’m very impressed. It’s ready, finally. And now happily back to the first distro I used.

@zeh @selea @edsuom I used Ubuntu for many years. It's fine to install the first time, but things often got borked during upgrades, even just to the next version… not fun. Important to keep your own stuff on a separate partition, so you can reinstall if necessary.
