Coca Cola is a perfect example of a 'run away company' that's just unstoppableThey simply decline all responsiblilty in cleaning their trash while making the plastic pollution issue much worseThe company has stupid responses like:"We will invest in the local community to teach them about recycling"While there are NO places to recylce the bottles 🙄It's just insane how fast we pollute our shared planet for consumption but mostly greed because I do believe we CAN do betterWe must.

@stux Yu're not even supposed to recycle the cans because theyre coated in plastic on the inside (just like paper milk cartons)So consumers are blamed for everything when companies aren't held accountable for the waste produced by their products. If anybody cared, they would force companies to be accountable for their products from manufacture to post-consumer waste removal.

@stux last year I heard a coca cola spokesperson on French radio say that metnioning a request to recycle on the bottle caps is a serious effort at sustainability. Repeated in a very serious tone when the journalist doing the interview asked if he was for real with that statement.

@stux The irony is we can recycle cans, so why are they not banned from using plastic? It makes no sense to me.

@stux Large companies are like living organisms. In order to ensure their own existence, they have no qualms about destroying everything around them. The problem, as with certain tumors, is that after devastating everything around them, there won't even be the conditions for their own existence.

@stux tax it, it needs to become more aggressively punitive to keep using plastic. This and non biodegradable coffee cups. Melbourne uses them by the tonne each hour. Biodegradable needs to become the standard.

@stux it’s crazy how we (our politicians) allowed this to start in the ‘70s… when I was a kid the glass bottles were reused and every person in the supply/usage chain contributed…

@stux In $country I've been recycling beverage containers my entire life. Every grocery store has a machine that accepts both plastic and glass bottles as well as metal cans. The price of every bottle/can includes a deposit that you get back when you recycle it. Kids and poor people are incentivized to pick up litter because it's actual money for them. The sunday before last my 5 year old nephew was waving around two plastic bottles at a family get-together because he's "saving for his own computer".If you can't recycle plastic bottles in your country, the failure is more than just Coca Cola's fault.

@stux Now I am curious how recycling works in the US. In Germany, almost every bottle (about 94%) get‘s recycled, including from Coca Cola.

@stux I never found a source verifying the data for it, but I remember seeing a Top Ten Global Trash Producers list where nine out of the ten were junk food manufacturers (Coca Cola was definitely on it), and the one that wasn't was a cigarette company.

@stux yet another reason I stopped drinking the pop to which I'm literally and truly addicted. It's bad for my health and it's bad for the planet.

@stux There is so much broken-up #plastic everywhere from all the #packaging. In the woods, on the beach, at the playground. It was never ever like this guys. I'm 52 and lived through leaded gas and asbestos but plastic pollution is really scary. They triple plastic package items just to give profits to #BigOil.

@stux I love your passion for the planet. I enjoy seeing you love and foster your cats. But I'm fairly disheartened by your strong expression of anti-ism opinions. Don't let your love turn into hate. Be the good movement toward more sustainable development and open en federated social media. Please don't become just another hater with a platform.

@stux a friendly reminder to myself, that even though I don’t drink Coca Cola, I likely do buy something else they own like bottled water or sports drink or sparkling water. It’s tough to keep track of what large mega corps own. And I should be more aware of the impact I have.

@stux Coca Cola's product isn't brown sugar water in plastic or glass bottles. It's marketing. And those people always believe they can market themselves out of any bad situation.

@stux well yeah... They would rather spend a few hundred dollars on PR for a 100x ROI thanks to the publicity it brings. Setting up recycling locations isn't nearly that effective. And besides, by the time the earth becomes prohibitively expensive for their CEO to live on it, they'll have passed on...

@stux I say the cans, bottles, etc. should have a tie to the company so that every last bit of what they produce has to be returned to the beginning of the product cycle and its matter reused to create the same thing again. Otherwise these products shouldn't be allowed to be made.

@stux Plastic recycling is fake. It's not an actual solution to anything. Companies literally pump countless disposable plastic products onto the market and pretend that everything will be fine if you chunk it in the blue bin instead of the other one next to it.A recent study suggests that only 5% of plastic is actually recycled (https://www.npr.org/2022/10/24/1131131088/recycling-plastic-is-practically-impossible-and-the-problem-is-getting-worse)We should just go back to glass bottles. They are better anyway.
