Threads should be instantly defederated across the fediverse. There should be no discussion, it should be hard-coded into every federated instance.

on this note, is there a way to block specific instances from seeing my posts? I don't want Zuckerberg scraping anything from my account. Kind of like a reverse defederation?

@grim Bear in mind that most of your posts (anything that's not followers-only or mentioned-only) can be seen by anyone anywhere and will have been scraped by Facebook already.

@RogerBW yea I know ... I just want to be able to symbolically block their tentacles, even though functionally it does nothing 😅

@Bidgehop @grim @RogerBW @yeti Threads does not federate at the momentIf they want your public posts, they can scrape our instance like anyone can do, i.e. by reading the RSS feeds. They could also create anonymous accounts on every instance and read the local timelines. Just a matter of a little sophisticated scripting. But why do you think that they are even interested in doing this?We would have to close down emacs.ch completely, but that would also mean that noone else except our users and follwers will be able to read your posts (degrading us essentially into a closed forum). That also means, no one will ever follow you because your posts cannot be discovered. However, as Eugen wrote about, no external entity can get to your personal data like email or IP addresses. That will not change. Whatever you make public is accessible to the public, which includes Meta.

@grim Btw. everyone can create a hundred instances in a matter of minutes just by firing up VMs and Dockers and script a little. There is no way of even identifying "specific" instances, if it is only for blocking them read your public posts. That's the beauty and uglyness of the Fediverse at the same time.

@louis @Bidgehop @RogerBW @yeti However, as Eugen wrote about, no external entity can get to your personal data like email or IP addresses. That will not change. Whatever you make public is accessible to the public, which includes Meta.this is key. thanks @louis
