I think it's the same reason(s) why people use mastodon.social.They don't want to deal with selecting a software and a server, they just want to interact with their friends.Most people are also not averse to big corporations, but actually see it as a good thing that a huge company is supporting the product as opposed to some random dude in their spare time.And last but not least: They might not yet have wrapped their hand around the whole decentralised concept.Hot take: If we want to bring people in this community without creating ginormous instances, we need to listen to their needs, and figure out how we can meet them.
