🧵 Secular mainstream media reporters are so ignorant of Confederate Christian ideology that they really do not know how to cover them correctly. This Daily Beast report from inside the recent convention of the Christofascist group #MomsforLiberty is a good example. These people are maniacally obsessed with forcing their religion on everyone else. Yet that is not how the article works. Instead, it's more of a "I went to this convention of weirdos." https://www.thedailybeast.com/inside-the-moms-for-liberty-summit-in-philly-we-saw-ron-desantis-furry-panic-and-lots-of-trump-merch

The reporter mentions some of the trappings of the totalitarian Christianity practiced by the group, including it naming its annual awards after the Biblical Book Esther's phrase "for such a time as this" but it provides no context about the verse and how today's evangelicals use it to state that they are God's direct, personal servants in their fascism. She briefly mentioned the name of one of the extremist speakers, Tim Barton, but gives no background on his extremist viewpoints.

Listen to any prominent M4L speaker and you would learn in minutes that these extremists literally believe that anyone who disagrees with them is under the control of Satan. Is this mentioned in the article though? Of course not.The reason for that is that many educated moderate/conservative Democrats still have a "can you believe this guy" approach to Christofascism. They think they're sophisticated but they are actually very naive. The banality of evil is real. But it's still evil.

Ultimately, we can know that the reporter, Kate Briquelet, failed to do her job correctly because the "Moms for Liberty" liked the article. They tweeted it out to their followers as promotional material. If this had been an accurately reported piece, there's no way that M4L would have promoted it.I reached out to the reporter to ask her to explain her process. Will update if she responds on the record. /end

@mattsheffield I couldn't agree more. If you have never survived tent revival, you can't accurately warn people about it!
