FML, I've spent over $600 on paint for the house and cannot land on a color that works. The first was a gray/taupe that dried purple, and then I went with a couple of shades of yellow that ended being really fucking yellow. After nearly suffering a nervous breakdown, we went back to the Home Despot for some more color chips. We're now thinking an ultra pale green called Sounds of Nature(?) For the bulk of the space, and a super soft blue/gray, for the bedrooms, called Offshore Cocaine Boat.

@radix023 The calla was just a bit much. And the daisy yellow in the bedrooms looked like lemon meringue pie yellow. Even factoring in 8" baseboards in satin white, it was just too much yellow. A couple of neighbors came over and were of the same opinion, sadly. Now, onto Sounds of Nature, and Offshore Mist. @ReadyKilowatt

@GettingCooked Lighter colors use available light.Step two is determining cool or warm.The mistake most people make is making some dramatic statement with color.The vast majority of architecture benefits from light.I have standing. I sold paint for years.

@GettingCooked we literally just did this whole thing this weekend. We went through about 10 colors and landed on 'Granite peak'. I'm amazed at how different the colors look on the house vs on paper. Or how different the colors look depending on what time of day it is. Granite peak is more blue in the morning and gets less blue and more smoky gray as the day goes on.

@CSBHOTSQUAD I have some standing, I'm covered in paint! Ayaah! I thought the colors would be warm and soothing, and they are, if I lived in a loony bin. The new ones are pale and much more subtle so I hope they work out this time.

@JamesC I know, right! The first choice, Dove, went on taupe, dried gray, and turned purple once the sun went away. The second choice, Calla, was just too much yellow. And the bedroom yellows were even worse. I pray these last picks will work, I'm so tired of this BS.

@Sophistifunk The missus and I plan on being up there within 3 years, when I'm finished renovating our basement (which will then become a rental) so we want something pleasing to our eyes as well as being g desirable. Especially when I plan on asking $3K per month rent.

@Kennyben I find most homes for sale these days are painted in some sort of gray, Reno Gray I call it, and I'm just not into that. But I am into the pale soothing colors. I sure as hell hope the next color works for us.
