#TIL about #ActivityPods:"With ActivityPods, you have only one profile, one outbox, one inbox and one list of followers - all in a single place. Applications connect to your Pod to post activities, read the inbox and fetch data. And of course they can connect to any existing fediverse application!" https://activitypods.org/I think our data portability problem may have been solved for us!#fediverse #ActivityPub #Solid #LinkedData

@deadsuperhero @strypey Yes and no, depending on whether you're talking about server or client app.A server would need to store RDF triples rather than a relational db, but that's manageable. Basically we're just talking about every user having access to their own federated db, which is already the case for people who run their own instance. Everyone having their own instance is not ideal, so I'd therefore expect a fediverse server to be clever about how it stores triples to take advantage of the redundancy between users. On the client side, at the moment we already have clients that simply use e.g. Mastodon API. We're basically talking about replacing that API with a Solid interface. Yes, backwards compatibility would be an issue, but it's still early days for ActivityPub clients, and it's not yet impossible for Solid to become a more viable general solution than the ActivityPub client-server API.

@josephguillaume> it's not yet impossible for Solid to become a more viable general solution than the ActivityPub client-server APIThere's been very little uptake of the AP C2S API, in favour of Mastodon's de facto standard. So I suspect there wouldn't be many tears shed about replacing both, with something Solid-compatible.@deadsuperhero

@damon> I didn’t realise Solid was stable enough yet for thisNeither did I until I stumbled upon the project while searching for something else.> This will be a game changer ultimately!Agreed. I haven't tested it yet, but I love the concept. Cross-verse SSO Iis an accordance I've seen requested many times since November.
