@jeena I'm skeptical about that. The Fediverse isn't a threat to them. Their existing userbase is several orders of magnitude bigger already, and so many more Twitter users uninterested in this place are going to go to Threads like a shot.

@hughster if it wasn't a threat they wouldn't be interested in it. What's the point them using ActivityPub? If I want to be on a gloßy platform I already can use Facebook and Instagram.

@jeena See, I don't agree with that premise that they could only be interested if they want to kill it. They might be thinking it's a shortcut to allowing developers to get involved in building third-party tools for the platform without having to build a whole new developer suite from scratch, for example.

Judging by the calibre of the big names they've persuaded to get on board, a promising start. (I know, I know, so did Fyre Festival, but they didn't have a product yet.) This alone could bring large numbers of fans and fan accounts across. #Threads
