I'm having a hard time figuring out who benefits from blowing up a nuclear power station. I've heard theories that this would make nuclear energy less palatable, but you already have Germany digging up old villages for brown coal and bulldozing old growth forests for solar, so I'm not sold on that. There's theories that it's an area denial play, but that's a pretty blunt way of achieving this.

@NitroDubs USA recently said anything involving radiation will be treated as Russia using nuclear weapons, since it will effect other countries in Europe. Pre-text to USA declaring war.

@Northman I know the Pentagon wants badly to escalate and join the war, but this is a pretty silly casus belli. They still claim with a straight face that Russia blew up their own pipelines, with no evidence, and no motive, and this is looked at outside of NATO as ridiculous. There's also the side issue of "what good is it to rule irradiated rubble?" argument that I've had with hoplophobes that go on about the US Government having nuclear weapons. I could easily see some people in our government that would be perfectly fine with this, but I have a harder time seeing it in Moscow. Not saying nothing will happen, I just don't see anything happening.

@NitroDubs "This resolution [...] is meant to send a message to Vladimir Putin and even more directly to his military, they will be destroyed, they will be eviscerated if they use tactical nuclear weapons, or if they destroy a nuclear plant in a way that threatens surrounding NATO nations. [...] His (Putin's) military risks total obliteration by NATO forces, if they are so reckless and irrational as to resort to tactical nuclear weapons," Senator Blumenthal said.
