What do you say, is the #Earth or #Gaia a #conscious being? If so, what would that mean?

@love_create Don't be so hasty with your thoughts. ;-) There are probably materialists among us, who deny the existence of any consciousness at all (being all an illusion and so forth). And although I'm not one of them, I am not sure if I wanted to live on a conscious planet. I have enough conscious lifeforms to deal with already.

@dmk Sure, it is maybe a mindboggling idea, but I think we all can assume, if Gaia is a conscious being, she is benevolent and not hostile to mankind. If she wanted, she could easily wipe us off the planet in a matter seconds in case she is a being with will and volition. To me, this is more about us trying or needing to come to terms with our existence. Are we respectful and caring to our home? Are we subverting our own foundation by our actions? If Gaia were conscious there would be no point of ignoring or objecting to it. I think we would then want to learn to be in a mutually beneficial partnership. The question of consciousness may be offensive to some, but most won't deny that it would be strange to assume that consciousness would be reserved only to their own existence.

@love_create Well said. However, for a mutual benefitial partnership it should suffice to acknowledge the consciousnes of all lifeforms around and in us, notwithstanding that their levels of consciousnes surely differs. Many destructive habits of our current civilisation probably come from viewing all non-human lifeforms just as objects. I am not opposed to the idea of a conscious Gaia, but I do not think it is necessary to live in harmony on this planet. Having said that, if the idea helps people to find harmony, I am all for it. :-)

@dmk Sure, I agree about what you said about viewing other life forms as objects. But I don't think that it is enough to acknowledge that there is consciousness in all life forms around us. If one considers the consciousness in one life form different from that of another it is very possible that it is regarded as of less worth and quality. Then the idea of separation is still or again justified and seen as the dominant or only reality. This is the problem. The question of separation begs for an answer. If there is separation, no solution is possible. If there is no separation, all that we do here is temporary and illusionary. How to answer? What is the source of consciousness? All consciousness must share the qualities of that source. In that perspective the idea of separation or differences is not relevant anymore. It is a false idea then. That is to say, there is only one or divine consciousness. All that we perceive or experience as different or differences in consciousness it the result of thought that we are free to choose. In that sense we can be wrong, but we cannot lose or destruct our reality nor anyone else's reality. It is always. It is always there to be remembered and accepted again.

@love_create Well, I don't agree that there is only one or divine consciousness. I rather expect that consciousness is a phenomenon of every self-organising system, which includes different levels of complexity. All the bacteria inside my body would probably have a lower quality consciousness than I have. Yet, without them I could not live. The same goes for all other lifeforms around us, even if their connections are less direct, which therefore includes certain degrees of separation as well.Consciousness should allow for various forms of communication. We currently exchange ideas via electronic text (how wild is that? :-). My personal bacteria will have different forms of communicating between themselfs and their host. And dare I say it, if Gaia is a consciousness, it probably would communicate in wonderous ways.In essence, it should be possible to live in harmony as integral part of a sacred universe while not having the same kind of consciousness as every other lifeform in it.
