I had to cut off a private conversation with someone who was furious and enraged all the time, and get this: he was enraged that I wasn't more enraged by the headlines and rage-baiters he was following. When I tried to show him he was being baited he got enraged.

People blame the media for sensational rage-inducing headlines.I don't blame the media.The media needs readers to survive and 🔥 gets more engagement than 🤓 The idea is to try to educate the consumers of news to be better consumers.

@smaamorsomt I think the historical instance is the printing press, which entirely disrupted Europe and caused major wars because of the sudden influx of information that people were not prepared to sort through.

@Ulrich_the_Elder @Teri_Kanefield that’s kind of hard to do if your entire personal and professional communities are in Twitter. And what’s the safer alternative for marginalized communities? Many POC I’ve spoken to say they experience the same abuse no matter where they go. So if they leave they just lose the communities they spent years building.

@Ulrich_the_Elder @Teri_Kanefield I’m not sure if you fully understood what I meant, so I’ll rephrase. I’m not on Twitter but I have a Black female cis het close friend who still is —— and she’s explained to me more than once that her entire professional circle is still there as well as her personal one. And if she left Twitter and severed those ties, that same oppression would follower her anywhere she went. There is no safe place for her to go.

@Ulrich_the_Elder I’m also Jewish and grew up w/stories of family members lost during WWII. And the oppression that other surviving family members lived with for their remaining years in Europe. So I’m careful not to overuse phrases that carry huge significance for the millions of families who also lost loved ones. I’ve learned a lot by taking a minute to listen to what life is like for friends who’ve had a very different life than mine & I understand why my friend is still there

@Chimaera The old jewish side of my family fervently wish they had at least killed some of their neighbors who championed nazi ideology.
