       I managed to make claws-mail work with Google Workspace using XOAUTH2, so yes it's possible and no you don't need application passwords.Still no success with #Emacs/Gnus though, I might have to write my own authenticator.

       @galdor For #Emacs #gnus, I ended up using #davmail as an intermediary to read email from an Exchanger server. Has worked and continues to work flawlessly.
