replacing my current bed with a bunk bed is a fun idea. not because it's likely that two people will ever sleep in this apartment, but because i live in a studio and there's about 6 m³ of air above my bed that isn't being used for anything. i could put a sheet of plywood up there and use it as a little attic for storage.

@thor or you could raise the bed and put a desk or a sofa under it, like a dorm loft.100% I’m doing this for my kids to maximize their bedroom space, land in PH is expensive

@ralf raising the bed sounds like quite the DIY project for someone who's barely done anything like that before. also, i'd have to find somewhere else to keep my cables. i have a massive drawer of them under the bed. it takes up all the floor space in that corner of the room. the idea was to keep that drawer but change the bed for a bunk bed. i have a desk for my computer but it wouldn't hurt to have a separate work area for my other hobbies. might get hot to sleep up there though.

@thor yeah, it depends on your use case. I just remember finding it super handy in school.

@thor you probably breathe some of that air while you sleep so not a complete waste.

now, this is another idea that might be even better than a bunk bed.

apparently there are many varieties of these. they seem like a really good use of space. all that empty air above a bed feels like a waste in a small room.

@thor for having lived like that for a good half of my childhood:>changing bedsheets is a pain in the ass>getting in and out of bed is noisy>the safety ladders at a slight incline eat up a deceptive amount of extra footprint>a perfectly vertical ladder makes moving books/bedsheets up complicated>nightstand/bedside lamp will require troubleshooting and with how much the frame moves, whatever you could have on an integrated stand will probably drop during the night. You'll want nets, a wall mounted stand or you'll d like me and jam your books and water bottle between the mattress and the wall.>the footprint you gain is great if you need a desk or a workbench and that's pretty much it. If you want a relaxation spot like in this picture, might as well make your bed into a couch when not sleeping instead it'll be less work.

@thor before we moved my sons room was tiny and had no closet. I built him a loft bed that had a closet bookshelves and a desk under it. He used it for 15 years. When we moved I wanted to toss it but he insisted on keeping it. My daughters room was small also so I built her a slightly elevated bed with drawers and cupboards underneath. Such things make very good use of space.
