Operation Barbarossa went roughly according to plan, zapped, what, five million men of the Red Army minus those able to escape kettles not quite closed tightly enough?Then the Germans discovered the Soviets had a lot more men to fight them. Of course, trying to win a two front war, especially after the Royal Navy against successfully blockaded it was … unwise. I think the quick defeat of France went to their heads, especially bad when it hinged on France inexplicably not maintaining a mobile reserve.
