@erAck Great. So that means I gotta stop using #Libera.Chat. I guess it’s a great reminder how centralized #IRC is and that we should get rid of it. #Matrix was the only usable way to use IRC with multiple devices including mobile, so this feels pretty much the same as Twitter turning off API access or Reddit turning off API access - it’s restricting how people access the content in just the same way.And I wonder if the reasons are the same: Libera being worried it gets obsoleted by Matrix. Because if the complaint is “most of our connections are Matrix users”, that should tell you something about relevance. I wonder if this backfires the same way as Twitter. One can only hope this results in the same decentralized future…

@js @erAck It is disingenuous to compare that to the twitter or reddit situation; libera.chat is an IRC service and as such they prioritize the IRC-side user experience (which is made somewhat worse by the matrix bridging). However, they will only stop their own homeserver custom bridge, and certainly do not prevent any other server from bridging IRC (as long as guidelines are followed), and they have plans for a better integration later on.

@js @erAck Sorry, but Libera.Chat is highly freedom open source software focused.Closing this is just a technical thing.

@js @erAck hm, there's plenty of bouncers that have multiple device support with any client you may like.Frankly as an IRC user I'd rather have a clean cut than having a bridge which looks shitty on the IRC side (x sent a long link, edits etc) and half of the time doesn't actually bridge properly so you often see only parts of a conversation
