@linear I wasn't aware of Ladybird. I was aware of SerenityOS, but I didn't know that Andreas Kling was making his own browser as well. Though, I wish he would stop using GitHub, but there would probably be fewer devs if that was the case.

@linear @mirabilos The fuck? Why would you want Mozilla to fail? When was a monopoly on something *ever* a good thing? And you’re arguing for a total and absolute browser engine monopoly by Google?! Seriously?! If anything, Mozilla is our only hope, we need it to gain significant market share again so that not a single company can dictate the entire web.

@js@social.nil.im @mirabilos@toot.mirbsd.org i am advocating for mozilla, the organization that has repeatedly proven that it is not able to steward web standards and an open browser, to dissolve, and for stewardship of it to be taken over by a more responsible party that may or may not already existi am also calling for this with an assumption that the web platform as a whole is in the process of collapse, and as such, google's monopoly on the market (and possibly their entire organization) is already in jeopardy

@linear @mirabilos @js In fact Mozilla used to provide an open engine and proceeded to destroy that pretty much right when browsers on handhelds started becoming interesting. And this is why all embedded browsers or alternative browsers are using WebKit (no not blink, the Igalia+Apple engine) or some kind of chromium fork (cfe being one btw). It's not due to Google or Apple, Mozilla did that themselves.

@lanodan @linear @js @mirabilos Yea, as Lanodan said, from some time webkit(-GTK) was gaining popularity. But gome decisions are like a step forward and two steps backward, so webkit future on Linux is very unstable.

@xgqt @linear @js @mirabilos Well that's for GTK though, for embedded there is WPE WebKit, which got a Qt QML API some years ago, so I could imagine switching over.
