It's a weird experience to be approached not for a thing you did but how you look. Like, I'm not an attractive dude, I've never been someone people try to talk to when I'm out and about. But in the last week's I've been approached a lot based on my (only halfway finished) tattoo. Interestingly even after giving a keynote at a bigger conference: Few people wanted to talk about what I said (there was the lunch break afterwards) but in the 10 minutes after the keynote I was at the conf 3 people approached me about it.I am weirdly irritated by how hard it is to talk about a thing you are not a thing you do. Like a 30 second conversation like that drains all my batteries. Dunno where I am going with this. Just a thing that I am chewing on a bit currently.

@tante sounds very familiar. Now consider that this is the default setting for most persons read as female, especially once they reach puberty (it can start earlier).Sometimes it is very liberating to be old (over 40), grey and fat.

@tante Interesting, I always thought of tattoos as something closer to what people do, but I guess it's also very much identity?(But then again, I don't really get the whole identity thing)

@plaifool that form of communication is definitely a very "male" kind of thing, I agree. I just found it weird how me having more visible ink makes people approach me, which again usually doesn't happen (I am tall, usually wear all black and tend to have not the friendliest resting facial expression)

@bleistifterin oh this absolutely has given me way more of a taste of what a lot of women go through on a daily basis. (Not saying it's the same, it's just a very light taste of what women go through)

@tante Let me guess. Having a tattoo is now also it’s own subculture just like everything else?

@tante I had the same experience except my tattoo was below my belt-line and most of the approaches and conversations were initiated in jail after my arrest for indecent exposure.

@plaifool Maybe. It's just unusual for me/not my normal experience. Feels weird that this seems to push people towards commenting.
