@LostInCalifornia I'm not up on the website thing. It sounds ridiculous though. Mostly student loans. I would've had NO DEBT if it went through.Corporations are people though and deserve a break. 🙄

@jmakesart @LostInCalifornia I think, if I understand it correctly, that Biden wanted to erase over 400 billion in debt without it going through Congress, like it would if it was part of the overall budget.

@Fullycaffeinated @jmakesart The president has some discretion over public funds. Probably not that much, but he doesFTR, back during the Reagan admin, DC decided to demonize college students. They cut aid, and hired debt collectors to go after “deadbeats” who took out loans, during a recession where jobs were few. Then, they made sure that college loans were not eligible for bankruptcy, and turned the loans over to private investors who made bank as college costs doubled (ie, they privatized the college assistance programs and ensured no risk to the rich.)The college loan program means that students take jobs they are over qualified for because they need one now. It also means the social sciences can offer the most ridiculous curriculum since they know they’re not prepping students for the job market and they might as well not try. Probably resulted in the rise of DEI as well.I think the college loan program is the bastard demon child of oligarchs.

@jmakesart @LostInCalifornia Biden could have erased our debt under the Higher Education Act. Instead, he did it as part of COVID relief, knowing it would be challenged and unlikely to hold up. It was a way to get votes. It was not a way to actually provide permanent relief.

@LostInCalifornia @Fullycaffeinated @jmakesart I'm not an economist but I could have predicted that outcome.

@LostInCalifornia @Fullycaffeinated @jmakesart As a senator, Biden added and voted for the provision to end student loan cancellation through bankruptcy.

@TheInebriati @Fullycaffeinated @jmakesart I think a lot of people did. On paper tho, and we’ve lost our memory since we have computers now.

@LostInCalifornia @Fullycaffeinated @jmakesart My suggestion is taking some of the mountain of money WE the taxpayers give to shitholes such as Harvard and Stanford, and using that to pay tuition at PUBLIC universities.
