@jazzilla @NBS I used to root for traditional titles for cultural continuity... Now I realize... Buh bye! It's the fourth turning... And besides these woke entities have always pushed a subversive liberal agenda. They reaped what they sowed.

@Sir_chasm What our brains should have interpreted when we saw this (2016, I think, the kid on the left), was a foreign tank rolling down the street. This is modern warfare. That's not an exaggeration. Watch the old Syria, Egypt videos, watch James Giordano's West Point lecture on YouTube (link in my pinned toot). This is how it's done. This is the new, unrestricted warfare. It's a mischaracterization to just say this is "woke" or "left" without first understanding modern war.@NBS

@NBS that cover is from January 2017. it's still very popular and they will continue, just with contractors instead of staff writers. is trying to cancel shit cool if they're woke? I really don't get NA folks who are fine with spinning narratives. isn't that what we hate?https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/06/28/media/national-geographic-magazine-staff-writers/index.html

@wjmaggos There's a difference between loud outrage leading to cancelling and the free market making choices when it comes to goods/services.Nat Geo losing viewers, just like Fox losing viewers, due to their audiences' choices in consuming their service is respectable and hilarious. The timeline is the point of this picture: it shows the development of a narrative in Nat Geo (in 2017) that presumably worsened or maintained over time. The consumers reacted. Nat Geo suffered

@NBS why presume that? you have nothing to base this on. you found a cover from 6 years ago and the new article about them switching to all contract writers. there's no evidence of a drop in circulation (or one unique to this magazine compared to others), nor reason given if that happened. you're pushing a narrative that their readers cancelled them for wokeism.

@wjmaggos Why presume various media have become more political, particularly in one direction of the political spectrum, in the past 6 years? Isn't this obvious from watching media and corporations nowadays? There's always a political message, it seems, by either side now, but particularly the woke/left side nowadays.I'm pushing a narrative that coporations/media stuffing their political beliefs down customers/users throats often leads to disdain and those users abandoning the service/good.

@NBS but that's not the argument. you're saying they went esp woke and readers abandoned them for that, based on one cover and no circulation numbers. you want that to be true. as far as any journo outlet abandons their standards and instead pushes any kind of propaganda, I want that to be true too. I just don't have the evidence. what I think I'm seeing is people preferring hardcore partisan media to anything that tries to be fair, and then tearing that apart of it sniffs of any bias at all.

@NBS my grandparents gifted me a sub to NatGeo in the early 80s. Much was too complex for my 7yo self but that just made me want to learn more. I kept that sub for over 30yrs, devouring every issue.Until about 2010 when they took on a political bent. Tried to ignore but the Gender Revolution issue was too far.Without a monthly dose of that yellow rectangle, I would not be the person I am today. But I would also not expose my now 7yo son to the lumbering monster that its been perverted into.
