yeah I also have a Pentax Z-1P and a Minolta a/maxxum/dynax 7. I'm trying to get an A9xi (for 1/12000 shutter speeds) but the first untested one I got was dead (but came with a nice 28-300 tamron lens lmao).

the fun part about Minolta lenses is aside from the Sony/Zeiss lens and some of the expensive lenses like the STF lens or the G lenses, they are rock bottom price wise. Especially the first gen Maxxum era lenses with a heavy weight to them. PK lenses are pretty cheap too but the problem is most of the AF bodies are dogshit. The SFx and Z-1P era ones are slow, the ZX series has a mirror motor gear failure issue (including the MZ-S), and the *ist has the crippled AF mount that can't meter mf lenses. I got a k10d for less than it normally goes for because the built in flash is dead (who uses that anyway)

The mirror right and not the aperture lever right? The aperture levers on the F4 love to "gum up" with age, I have a second body I'm probably gonna sell off. The nicest F4s are the 25xxxxx serials, those are later production from the mid 90s and have some minor improvements.

The problem with old cameras and repairing them at least film wise is the electronics. That's why some of the Canon FD cameras are notorious for failure, with some later Minolta MD SLRs having issues too. The worst offender bar none is probably the Mamiya 645, due to the need for special computer hardware anyone who works on Mamiyas normally will tell you to contact Phase One (the current owners) and hope they give a shit. Nikons on the other hand, even a "shitty" Nikon like an N4004, N2020, or N70 is going to be vastly better than a Pentax MZ/ZX because it won't break gears. Some of the Minoltas are also dirt cheap and reliable for what they are, and the other reason I got an A7 was because I heard the metering is one of the best of any film camera. Shit like backlighting or red flowers won't fuck the meter up apparently.

yeah the thing with Nikon stuff is you have to know someone who works on shit like the F4. There's a few people who do, it's easier than trying to find someone to work on AF Minolta stuff. There's literally several major Minolta cameras without service manuals even, I know the xi generation lacks them.

Essentially there's 2 main groups of Minolta AF bodies: ones that can autofocus with the SSM lenses and ones that can't. There's also the Zoom xi power zoom lenses but nobody cares about them for the most part.The SSM lenses are the same idea as AF-S on Nikon and Pentax has something similar. Unlike Pentax, you can use those lenses with AF on the Maxxum 7, 5, 4, 3, 50, 70, and the rare converted 9/9ti. SSM converted 9s are expensive as shit, while a 7 is $100-150 and a 5 or 70 is $10-20 from ShopGoodwill/thrift store/ebay.

if you want to drive the SSM lenses without spending much, a Maxxum 5 will drive all the A mount lenses. A 7 will too but it costs more and by that I mean $90 instead of $30. oh I should add too, the maxxum 5 has bracketing, dof preview, will start to autofocus when you hold the camera to your eye, meters well and fast, all for around $10-20.
