Got a wild hair and hiked nine miles from Bogus Basin Road down Sweet Connie Trail above #Boise this morning. So many wildflowers and birds!

@IdahoLark I’d say that was a big wild hair.

A few critters from today's hike: gopher snake, western fence lizard, sleeping bee or other pollinator, and a sagebrush sheepmoth (I think).

@Blanco I wish I could have photographed some of the birds, but there was no way I was hauling a big camera along.

@IdahoLark Funny, I haven't been back to sagebrush country in years and just looking at your picture of that caterpillar I got an instant flash of sage smell. Thank you! I love that smell.

@GiddingsMJ During my last job I learned about how many species of sagebrush there are, and how they smell different. I recently pinched a few leaves of one that smelled really sweet. Some hardly smell at all.

@IdahoLark How interesting. Do they grow in different environments, or scattered around together?

@GiddingsMJ Different environments and substrates. One kind is found only in one place, on glacier soil. Complicating things in many of the species hybridize.
