Today I learned the dinner plates I ate off regularly as a child are 14,000ppm lead content. Apparently the news has been around since 2019 but I just saw a picture of them today. Safe levels for kids are 100ppm.

@veesWe have the green floral print that my mom had when I was growing up. My mom has a blue floral print set that she got from my grandmother. Eating off Corelle dishes in blissful ignorance for generations.

@vees I used to work for Lenox China. Fine China always has high lead, but the glaze keeps it in. Ditto for lead crystal. Don’t eat broken pieces and you’ll be fine.

@markrsmith That's what reliable sources told me immediately after I read the breathless "Lead Safe Mama" page.

@vees can you share the source? My mom had these for us as a kid -- butterfly print -- and I even bought her a complete set on Etsy as a gift to replace broken plates of the past. Glad it has a glaze though.

@pixelbud My original source was a Reddit thread where some Etsy seller was making earrings out of them, but everybody kept pointing to https://tamararubin.com/2019/12/breaking-news-12-26-19-corelle-recommends-using-their-pre-2005-dishes-only-as-decorative-pieces-due-to-concerns-for-high-levels-of-lead/

@vees Thanks for sharing. Also awesome to see a fellow Marylander on Mastodon 🙃
