BTW, an ADHD doc asked me about my hobbies, and pointed to things like this as diagnostic proof.Me: Ham radio looks fun. I should get an Extra-class license.Me: I should become a certified scuba diver.Me: *owns bowling shoes*Me: *owns full soccer get-up*Me: *owns a guitar*Me: *owns production-grade music gear*Me: *recently booked an appointment to learn paddle boarding*Me: *looks at an incomplete ship in a bottle model kit*Me: “What? @tek Totally do the paddle boarding. We got into it 2 years ago and never looked back.Taken about 20 minutes from my house. Also, I have 100% reset forgotten about passwords and taken meetings from the river 😁 We have gotten up at 530 to get a morning sunrise paddle in before work.

@tek This is 100% me too! Some people get down in the dumps about this, but my take is that we get to try all these amazing fun hobbies, some of which stick! Others will never know what they might be missing out on by not trying new things!

@rawcodefarmer I like the term "well rounded”.I totally agree! "How do you know you won't like mountaineering?" “Because I tried it and it wasn't for me.”(My advice to my kids about living in different places before settling down for a while is very similar. Maybe your hometown really is the best place in the world for you, but how would you be content in that thinking until you've tried the alternatives?)

@cinja That’s beautiful! It was all Mrs Tek’s idea, but I thought it sounded like a grand time and I'm all on board.

@naf Well, fine. Looks like I’m adding pottery to that list.(I totally get that, though. The things you mention sound like they'd be catnip to me.)

@tek I did get scuba certified when I lived in SoCal. To me scuba diving felt like the closest I'd ever get to going into space. The attention to detail, the calculations, the real chance you could die if you don't do things properly... of all the hobbies I've picked up and let go idle it's my favorite.I haven't been since I moved to the East Coast (I am not a fan of the Atlantic), but I still drag my gear around w/ me when moving. Just in case.
