@nik @tk absolutely!!“Feed Views” might be a good word for this, in contrast to “algorithm”.Even a suggestion algorithm that’s simple and completely transparent could be fine. I’m on lemmy a lot these days (it’s much like Reddit). And it’s been great to sort by “hot” or “old” or “new”, in part because I know what it’s doing.

@tk More to my point. I just have this much of engagement the past couple of hours just by commenting on 2 toots. This is way more that I want and a bit overwhelming for my standards. I personally don’t wish to be hooked on social media in a comment/ answer cycle. But that’s just me. It shows this platform is very alive.

@tk I have actually found the opposite to be true with Mastodon. Yes, it takes work, but I have way more followers on Mastodon than I did with Twitter. Algorithms/presentation being quite different (almost purely chronological views vs. sorting influenced by aggregated-votes).twitter/youtube/… is the equivalent of a venue where the rules(algorithms) to get on the podium aren't entirely laid out and typically can be gamed via either money or pre-existing status.
