I do wonder who gonna pay for all "search and rescue" to the underwater pirate billionaires.. 🤔 I'm sure it's not the families of the billionaires nor the company that causes this stupid stupid stupid accident but rather the tax payer..They should really make the company pay for this crap :battery_underflow:

@stux not to worry, all the necessary election campaign donations will be made. at a tiny fraction of the actual cost.

@stux Totally agree, especially as they wouldn't go along with the rules that they ought to have followed.

@stux safety is waste! Why pay for it if the costs of rescue are not your problem

@stux Reminder that he fired the engineer who told him "wtf don't build that, that's a death trap, are you insane?" who then sued for wrongful termination and won. @Lipk

@stux exactly!! Just like they look for reimbursement costs to rescue hikers, who aren’t prepared/educated on proper safety measures, and require help, rescue and sadly recovery. Such a waste of life, too much time & money on their hands and no common sense. Want a thrill…go feed hungry people.

@stux Yes if they ever did, those $$$$$ have probably been moved to a safe/crooked haven--Caribbean or Swiss institutions perhaps

@stux It should be up to the company who owned & operated the "experimental" sub as they should hold/have liability as it was their sub that failed, resulting in the need for the massive search & retrieval (assuming they bother collecting the bodies).

@stux We pay for the infrastructure to rescue at sea because ships sink. The infrastructure existed whether it was being used to search for dead billionaires or not, though presumably there's an opportunity cost in whatever it could otherwise have been doing.I would guess that that the company will indeed be made to pay damages, so much that it just goes bankrupt. My main complaint is that the sea-rescue infrastructure isn't being used properly to rescue migrants and instead seems to push them back into the sea :(

@stux "The Coast Guard, as a matter of both law and policy, does not seek to recover the costs associated with Search and Rescue from the recipients of those services," according to a U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson. "As a matter of law, 46 USC 2110(a)(5) prohibits the Coast Guard from collecting fees for the conduct of SAR operations: The Secretary may not collect a fee or charge under this subsection for any search or rescue service."https://abcnews.go.com/US/foot-bill-titan-submersibles-search-rescue-us-taxpayer/story?id=100339399

@stux out here if you get lost doing something stupid you can be billed for things like helicopter time. We get “free” search and rescue insurance with fishing or hunting licenses, or can buy it for a few dollars from Parks and Wildlife. I imagine it isn’t the same on the high seas for billionaire crush depth enthusiasts.

@stux The same people who pay for saving idiots from mountains and ocean surfaces when they insist on doing things beyond their physical and/or mental capabilities and with total disrespect of Mother Nature - every country's taxpayers where these "accidents" happen.
