All Russian state-owned companies must ditch foreign software by 2025: https://www.interfax.ru/russia/906879This includes foreign operating systems, office suites, virtualization systems, and database management systems.

@campuscodi does this mean the country is moving entirely to a Linux distro? cause there is no way they can build out an OS that runs on all those computers from scratch and I don't think there is any fully Russian OS's that support a modern stack. @kif have you seen this?

@liaizon yes, it is mostly moving to AstraLinux and AltLinux distros. Work on them started long ago, and most russian business software is already ported. @campuscodi @kif

@inexcode @campuscodi @kif really interesting to think of how many people might end up being trained on using Linux if different countries continue to do this

@liaizon @inexcode @campuscodi I would also take into account pirating because when I grew up in Russia there was no licence OS the way to buy windows is to go to a market and buy a CD for $2 from a guy on the street. That CD would include a crack. In fact this was so common that I grew up thinking this is the way it works.

@kif @inexcode @campuscodi I am pretty happy with people being trained in piracy from an early age too
