"This is the Internet Archive, the largest collection of archived web pages in the world and a constant reminder of the fragility of our digital past. It is also, thanks to a March ruling in a federal court, which found that the archive’s lending practices violate publishers’ rights, just one battlefield in a growing struggle that will define how humanity’s collective digital memory is owned, shared and preserved — or lost forever." in nytimes.2/2https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/21/opinion/digital-archives-memory.html

@brewsterkahle No mention in the piece of Disney's Sonny Bono Sct that exteded copyright by life +75years such that countless old films have crumbled to dust since no one can restore and reissue media that's contemporary with b&w Mickey Mouse. Digital or analog, erasure is always political.

@brewsterkahle I'm going to embark upon a project to try and ensure my blog is readable by people in 200 years time.My ideas so far are:- generating unstyled html- images as small as possible- open source all content- push to GitHub- create a book with an ISBN number and lodge with a library- store as many copies as possible in different open storage sites- create a trust fund that will fund my website long after I've gone.Hopefully I've got another 30 odd years or so to implement.

@brewsterkahle @chanezon this feels like something the library of Congress should own… meaning zero disrespect to the amazing contribution you’ve made founding and running the Internet Archive.I also think NIST should publish a raw index of the current Internet and have commercial stuff sit on top of that index.
