I'm kind of heartbroken. My Woohubs 8-in-1 USB C Hub looks like it can't be used between my new MacBook Air’s power connection (because it's now MagSafe) and the computer to power USB devices connected to it while they connect to my Mac. Not sure if the Mac will send power out to the Woohubs and connected devices when plugged in and I'm kinda sorta afraid to try with storage devices. @MikeTRose, do you know? I think it was you who tipped me off to this great hub.https://ikling.com/product/woohubs-8-in-1-usb-c-hub

@mlanger @MikeTRose I don’t know the specifics of this gear, but the MacBook Air should still accept power via USB-C. I hardly ever use the MagSafe on my MBP M1 Max because I have a (powered) hub. The limitation might be that your hub doesn’t pass through enough juice.

@jeffcarlson @MikeTRose This is interesting and solves my problem. I think. The Woohub has a USB passthrough for power with USB C in and a short USB C cable out. I'm kind of worried about frying something.

@mlanger @jeffcarlson @MikeTRose USB-C power will work fine. MagSafe isn’t required.

@crh @jeffcarlson @MikeTRose Thanks for this. Let's hope I have the cables I need. 🤣

@mlanger @crh @MikeTRose I doubt there's any worry about frying the equipment. More likely is that your Mac could be using more power than it's taking in (like doing computationally intensive stuff) and won't charge with USB-C alone. But with the power efficiency of the M2, that may not come up.

@mlanger @jeffcarlson @crh Jeff and CJ are right. MagSafe is "nice to have" but all the USB-C equipped MacBook Air/Pro can charge via USB-C PD, just more slowly.
