Any HVAC professionals out there have a recommendation between using Heil or Trane for a new AC unit? The Heil is $600 cheaper. Same capacity / cooling power.

@darrenoneill cheaper to find parts. Eventually you'll need them.

@JoeFish That I would believe, they are the better known brand. The Heil has a 10 year warranty on the coil, not sure beyond that. Need to check the Trane.

@darrenoneill I would go with the unit that you can get parts for and service. Most of these brands all come from the same production factory so little difference in quality. Globalism and such.

@Cbrooklyn112 That's why my guy said when I asked him, it's mainly about the name. He thought the quality was about the same. Said the Heil might be slightly louder, which I don't really care about. Guessing the extra cash for the Trane goes to their advertising budget. But, if it's easier to get parts, that is a factor.

@darrenoneill like Carrier needs carrier parts only and they bang you in price for them. Trane maybe the same way. A quick googley search you can get the low down.

@darrenoneill Trane tends to require trane specific parts that would be considered a universal part on other manufacturers, like electronics and motors. And very expensive! Looks like Heil is a branch off Carrier, I would go with them, Service tech would more often have truck stock that would work for those, than trane.

@darrenoneill rebuttal, every manufacturer will indeed require OEM parts to run, but trane is notorious pulling shady design to force OEM on typically universal parts, like blower motors. In my experience

@darrenoneill my HVAC guy swears by Fujitsu. Same quality as the expensive brands but you're not paying for the name.

@darrenoneill I will pass on the little knowledge that I remember from installing them once about a time. Maybe they have solved the problem today, but copper tubing running thru all the aluminum dissipation fins on the unit and the A Coil that goes in the furnace or air handler is usually considered better and less prone to leaking vs aluminum tubing. 1 of 2

@darrenoneill part 2 of 2, Yes aluminum does not rust but it does pit & corrode. All things being equal, I start looking for common problems like a leaking A-Coil or bad compressor to see if people are having a harder time getting one brand fixed vs the other.

@kenwarf02 Thanks for the information, not sure what's installed on the current unit but that seems to be what has taken it out. There's a slow leak. The 5lbs of refrigerant last about 8 to 10 weeks then is gone.
