@mjg59 I still have weird sync issues between mobile and desktop for Signal, mostly because of weird "you're running a snap, the snap updated while the app was running and yanked the rug out from under the running app" problems

@memory @mjg59 whatsapp, apple push notification service, and google cloud messaging are all xmpp. (also, conversations for android is perfectly fine messaging client, if that's you meant.)

@trwnh @memory They're all XMPP, but the XMPP spec doesn't describe them and there's no interoperable push spec between all XMPP servers and all mobile clients

@mjg59 @trwnh also google shut down GCM in 2018 and its successor (Firebase Cloud Messaging) is REST/JSON as far as I know.

@mjg59 The whole "data stream is a large unclosed XML document" always seemed like a weird decision.You incur all the complexities of parsing XML, while ruling out the use of any parsing library that can only deal with complete documents.
