@lowqualityfacts I thought it was founded in 1799 to make guillotines for the French Revolution. It wasn't their original intention, but the idea came to them after an unfortunate accident when a customer asked an employee to climb up the ladder and fetch a big chopping knife from the top shelf.

@lowqualityfacts this of course is using the “imperial epoch” favored by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, thus equals the year 833 in the georgian calendar. https://www.muqawwim.com/

@lowqualityfacts I'm old enough to remember the Home Depot moat kits that you could buy and do the work yourself.

@lowqualityfacts You’re probably thinking of Homme Depot. An entirely different business.

@lowqualityfacts That’s true. Originally it was a Cherokee business. It only got its English name after a hostile take-over in 1834.

@lowqualityfacts Pretty sure it was founded around 1150 by the Knights Templar under the name Pilgrims Deposit, with stores in twelve locations between Rome and Jerusalem. It was later shortened to Pilgrims Depot. You are technically correct that the name Home Depot appeared around 1392 when the Knights split the enterprise into two branches, the other being Office Depot.
