       Linux users, what is your solution for bidirectional computer/phone calendar sync? i'm especially interested if you have a solution that works for iOS.

       @lore iOS supports CalDAV directly.

       @lore It's not as easy as installing an app, but I think it's manageable. Works on my iPad without thinking about it (using it with Nextcloud).

       @lore @tcit me and my SO have our shared calendar on selfhosted caldav (Baïkal). The iOS setup wasn't quite "it just works" slick - the menu was bit hidden and called something else than caldav if I recall correctly. Since setup it has been smooth sailing.

       @jonossaseuraava @tcit i have a local CalDAV server running but now i have a problem: apparently, since iOS 13, SSL is required. this means i need a certificate. difficult to get via Certbot since this is a home server and the ISP has probably blocked ports 80/443.

       @jonossaseuraava @tcit i might have to go the somewhat cumbersome route of generating a self-signed certificate and manually installing it on my phone.

       @tcit @jonossaseuraava another option is to run it on the public Internet. not part of the original plan. i have two cloud servers that run the Mastodon instance, and they technically have the capacity. but they're not really meant for my personal stuff.

       @tcit @jonossaseuraava what i could potentially do is point a subdomain of my personal domain to one of those servers just to generate certificates, rip those out of Certbot, put them on my home machine and then change the A record.

       @lamp @jonossaseuraava @tcit is that even a thing for certbot? if so, why isn't it the default? just for the convenience?

       @lore @jonossaseuraava @tcit it's harder to use because it requires editing your dns zone, but there is no standard api, so each dns provider has to have a certbot plugin made specifically for their api which you have to install and configure with your api key. and a lot of providers dont have an api or might not have a plugin made for them. https://pypi.org/search/?q=certbot-dnsyou can do it manually, but that defeats the point of certbothttp challenge is most commonly used because usually you simply have a server at 80/433 so it's the simplest way to verify.
