@ned of course. The impressionable children can't buy cars. But people who buy cars like status, and if they think there's more status in an electric car because of the media environment they're soaking in, that's where they'll spend.

@ned i wasn't that impressed with arguments.holding onto a new car for longer, on average, means per people pay more for an older second hand car.but being Mr bean, it will get read and some might think a bit more about EVs and fuel and realize where electricity prices are headed.we just had a 20% increase and 10% increase in service charge - getting close to 50c/kWh with 5c/kWh solar feed in rate... solar isn't worth much it seems...

@philcolbourn it's more the fact that he's discussing the problem in a multi-dimensional way. Using infrastructure that already exists is infinitely better for the environment than forcing people to adopt and construct new infrastructure. Forcing people to buy new things is what you do to boost the economy. Which is exactly what this is all about. Money.

@ned and poor means people that buy second hand cars. this is one way rich help relatively poor - by buying nice cars and computers and phones and selling them after a few years.holding on to them does not reduce number of cars - it just means second hand cars are older and this does not help environment or us poor. we then have to keep this old car running longer. instead of a 3 year old car, i will be able to afford a 5 year old car. instead of selling it after 3 years, i will have to keep
