The next time you watch “Snow White,” remember that Grimm’s Fairy Tales may be what made the Grimm name famous in popular culture, but Jacob Grimm was also one of the giants of early linguistics. https://www.quickanddirtytips.com/articles/the-brothers-grimm-rockstar-linguists/

@grammargirl I was just listening to your podcast on the similarity of the words for father across languages where you mentioned Grimm’s Law in the p -> f and t -> th transitions in Indo-European languages. Probably, the most interesting observation though was how languages have front of mouth sounds for dad (and mom too).

@grammargirl Grimm's dictionary of the German Language is its equivalent to the Oxford English Dictionary. One of my favorite museums in Germany is the "Grimmwelt" in Kassel!

@grammargirl how did I not know the origins of ‘teddy bear’? Everything we say has a deeper meaning—I need to stop and reflect on how we got here, so much more than I do. Language is treasure, buried and new.
