Ok so let's get a few things straight.1. "Big admins" complaining about the community being pissed at them for meeting with meta under NDA is their fault and their fault only. Some admin blocking mastodon.art for being vocal about this is bullcrap. If you could not anticipate the fact that bragging on Mastodon about having a secret private meeting with Meta would spark anger, that's on you. Isn't the first rule of NDA "do not talk about NDA", by the way ?2. Meta has no good intentions, they don't plan on "playing nice" with smaller actors. Thinking otherwise is very naive. They plan on nipping potential competitors in the bud and make a profit. If they cared about anything else than big players and their user base and wanted to embrace the Fediverse as a concept, they would not discuss their plans only with big actors behing closed doors would they? They're trying to "join" a community that identifies as a healthy alternative to them and start with an NDA. What. Could. Go. Wrong.3. Meta is the company that allowed meddling with elections. They're the company that slowly removed from your timeline everything you loved to replace it with things they think you would be stupid enough to click on. They're a company that followed suit with Musk's "premium verification" concept to propose a similar product. There is NO REASON to trust meta and "wait and see". We ALREADY KNOW that Meta is evil and have had proof over and over.4. How arrogant do you have to be to think that once you allowed a company like Meta in your garden, you could reverse everything and undo any harm they're doing with "just 2 clicks" (sic) ? This is hubris.Block Meta. "Big admins", in their arrogance, are playing a very dangerous game for all of us and they did not consult the community before doing so, which is kind of telling as well. #BlockMeta #SaveTheFediverse

PS: Meta won't do anything upsetting for a few years by the way. They've been known for waiting patiently to reach critical user base and make themselves indispensable *before* they start the #enshitification process. Small artists liked facebook before they were forced to pay to reach people actively following them. What happens, a few years from now, when most of your social graph is on Meta's instance since most regular users joined the most marketed instance and they decide to suddenly make you pay to see the people you follow there? For them to see you? Would this be a surprise, given their track record?A lot of communities fled big social platforms because they were shadow banned, harrassed, extorted, mistreated, a while after they'd been made to depend on them, and you're welcoming them with open arms? Come on. You have to be smarter than that.

this is very gloomy doomsaying. why should i care about a still fictitious meta instance in the fediverse? if i do not want to communicate with folks from future fedi-meta i won't follow their accounts and won't accept them as followers. it will be as it is now: facebook is totally irrelevant.and again: the fediverse is much more than mastodon and its clones ...

@jabgoe2089 I never mentionned Mastodon ;)The point is : they have the resources to be a huge nuisance. They (and google, and skype) did it with XMPP already. They did it with Vine, they do it with anything that could become a threat and anything that they wish they had thought of first. They would not come to fedi if they did not have a plan. A plan that is important enough that they talk about only parts of it under NDA. If you're not worried, good for you, really! A lot of communities (black and LGBT folk, disabled people, etc...) depend on the fediverse for a healthy and serene use of social media and the announced arrival of the corporate actors that made us flee in the first place is very upsetting for the rest of us, especially when they come with millions of dollars, lawers, and an history of EEE 🤷♂️
